Total worldwide phthalic anhydride capacity amounts to a little over 5 million tpa, over 90% of which is based on Orthoxylene with the remainder using naphthalene feedstock. Around 60% of total global phthalic demand, approaching 3.7 million tons annually, is used to produce phthalate plasticisers with almost 15% going to both unsaturated polyester and alkyd resins manufacture.
