At last year's Asian chlor-alkali conference in Kuala Lumpur in June, caustic soda prices had already started to fall from their earlier historical highs of around $1,000/ton. By Q3 2009 prices in the US and Europe had reached very low levels. Interestingly in Asia however, although prices were falling, they did not crash to the low levels being seen elsewhere. Global PVC markets have remained weak as the recession has impacted many of its key industries, especially construction and automobile manufacture. 2010 has seen some improvement in the global economy but recovery in the chlor-alkali industry remains slow. The 14th Asian Chlor-alkali conference, co-organised by ICIS and Tecnon OrbiChem, in Shanghai, China, from June 24-25, will explore the recent developments in this delicate world balance, and look ahead to see what the remainder of 2010 and 2011 has in store. The conference will offer informed industry opinion on these issues, and will also give you the chance to exchange views on the state of the industry and to network with colleagues. |
