Synthetic fibres have been badly hit by the world economic recession, but to some surprise less severely on a world level than had been feared, due to the remarkable resilience of the market in China. In fact the recession has accelerated the migration of textile industries -- and with them fibre production -- from industrialised countries to Asia, especially China. However, as wage rates in China escalate, attention is moving towards investment in lower labour cost countries, such as Vietnam and India. The industrialised countries are having to diversify into alternative outlets for polymers such as polyester and polyamide that had been originally developed for fibre spinning -- bottle resin, film, engineering resin, sophisticated packaging among others.

The "Polyester, Polyamide & Intermediates Conference" will provide a platform to review the changes taking place in world markets and to point up the opportunities offered regarding diversification by established companies. The presentations cover a wide range of polyester and polyamide topics, from raw material availability through new applications and processes to the technologies and equipment needed to stay ahead of industry trends.
